The Equestrian
The Grand Duke, astride his horse, appeared for the first time in public in late September before leaving the scuptor’s Carson City, NV studio for Houston, TX. Eighteen months from concept to completition, the statue stands 12.6-feet tall and weights more than 3500 pounds.

Public Debut
The larger than life portrayal of the Grand Duke, dressed in the splendor of the lastest Italian styles of the 1500s now graces the front of an exclusive Italian villa hotel in Houston, TX. Sculptor Thomas W. Pottage was commissioned to execute the work early in 2005. The magnitude of the project is illustrated in the photograph showing moving crews preparing the statue for transport. Below is the maquette, a 12.6-inch scale model used in the creation of the statue.
